Creating shoes in my workshop in Florence for nearly 20 years I have got many requests for internships, apprenticeships and classes. Over the last 2 years more and more frequently people asked me to teach them the art of shoemaking therefore I decided to open a school.
SASKIA SCHOOL OF SHOES
The idea of this school is to give an introduction in the craft of shoemaking in an intensive 3 months’ course.
The class is focused on the making of shoes in the traditional way.
Learning a craft is about practicing step by step and repeating many times the same process to get the ability of the tools, the materials and the techniques of the craftsmanship.
My choice is to have max 4 to 6 students in each course to follow every single person with full attention. The course is created for those who have no experience in this field.
There will be 3 hours of teaching a day and 3 hours of free workshop classes per day.
You will be trained to build different shoes with different techniques: to understand the full process of a shoes we will start with some glowed shoes and we will continue with the process good year hand welted men shoes. In the end my aim is that each single student can build his own shoe.
Who is participating at this shoemaking class should be really motivated and have some passion about shoemaking.
The class will be held in english (we are not working with a translator). You should be able to speak and understand English
The requirements to participate: at the time of application you have to be 18 years old.
You should have reasonable handwork abilities.
